Excitement surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 is higher than ever, but the possibility of another delay remains a topic of discussion among fans.
While Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive continue to target a release in November, a former Rockstar developer believes another postponement cannot be completely ruled out.
According to Mike York, who previously worked at Rockstar Games, the studio could delay the launch again if additional development time is needed to achieve the quality standards it expects.
Rockstar could prioritize final polish over release date
Speaking with Indy100, Mike York explained that another delay would fit Rockstar’s traditional approach to game development.
The former developer pointed to the studio’s well-known philosophy of releasing games only when the team believes they are ready. If major issues remain shortly before launch, Rockstar could decide to push the release back rather than compromise on quality.
As an example, York mentioned potential problems with important sections of the game.
If Rockstar discovered that certain missions, gameplay systems, or technical elements were not meeting internal expectations close to release, the studio could choose to spend additional months refining the experience.
A delay would likely not hurt GTA 6’s success
Despite the possibility of another delay, the former Rockstar developer does not believe it would have a long-term negative impact on the game.
While some fans would certainly be disappointed in the short term, the enormous anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 would likely ensure that interest remains extremely high even with a later release.
Rockstar has already shown with previous major projects that extra development time can be used to fix problems, improve performance, and deliver a more polished final product.
Rockstar is still targeting November
At the moment, there is no evidence that GTA 6 is actually being delayed.
Both Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive continue to plan for a November launch. Marketing activity around the next Grand Theft Auto title is also expected to increase as the release date approaches.
Fans are therefore hoping that Rockstar can stick to the announced schedule and finally end the long wait for one of the most anticipated games in history.
Expectations for GTA 6 remain massive
Grand Theft Auto 6 is widely considered one of the biggest video game releases ever.
Many players, publishers, and companies are already planning around Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster, highlighting the enormous influence the franchise continues to have on the gaming industry.
