There has been another surprising twist surrounding Forza Horizon 6. After several recent reports suggested that the PlayStation 5 version could slip into 2027, Playground Games is officially still sticking to a 2026 release. In a new post published on September 7, the developer explicitly says that Forza Horizon 6 is still coming to PS5 “later this year.” A specific release date, however, remains unannounced.
That makes the situation surrounding the PlayStation version interesting once again.
Only a few days ago, well-connected sources had raised doubts about whether Playground Games would still be able to meet its originally announced launch window.
Officially, however, nothing appears to have changed.
Playground Games is still saying 2026
The key information comes from the latest official Forza blog covering the British Automotive update.
In the post, Playground Games introduces new content for the already available Xbox and PC versions before addressing PlayStation players directly.
The studio tells players planning to begin their journey through Japan on PS5 to stay tuned, adding that Forza Horizon 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 later this year and can already be added to wishlists through the PlayStation Store.
The post was published on September 7, 2026.
That is important because this isn’t simply an old product description left over from the original January announcement. It is a new statement directly from Playground Games.
Reports had suddenly pointed toward 2027
That makes the timing particularly notable.
At the end of August, The Verge reporter Tom Warren said he no longer expected to see Forza Horizon 6 launch on PS5 during 2026.
Shortly afterward, IGN also reported that it had heard similar information from its own sources.
Neither Microsoft nor Playground Games ever officially announced a delay.
At the time, that created two conflicting versions of events: reports from credible sources suggesting a move into 2027, and Microsoft’s public release window continuing to point toward 2026.
Playground Games has now repeated that original window once again.
Is a delay completely off the table?
Not necessarily.
The new statement is currently the most recent official information from the developer. Based on the public position, Forza Horizon 6 is still expected to release on PS5 in 2026.
That doesn’t tell us whether there are still internal concerns about the schedule.
It is possible, for example, that the wording in the latest blog was prepared earlier, or that development plans could still change behind the scenes.
But as long as Playground Games continues to explicitly communicate a release this year, a PS5 launch in 2027 cannot be treated as confirmed.
For now, the official information once again points clearly toward 2026.
There is still no exact PS5 release date
The biggest question remains unanswered.
When exactly will Forza Horizon 6 arrive on PlayStation 5?
The game is already available to wishlist through the PlayStation Store, but no specific release date is currently listed.
The remaining window is becoming increasingly narrow.
Forza Horizon 6 launched for Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026. If the PS5 version is still planned for this year, Playground Games now has only a few months left to release it.
November could also be a particularly difficult period.
GTA 6 launches on November 19, making it one of the biggest releases of the year. Microsoft has already moved Fable out of the fall period and into February 2027, giving the RPG a clearer launch window of its own.
Whether Forza Horizon 6 could arrive before GTA 6 or perhaps wait until December remains completely unclear.
An announcement may not be far away
If Playground Games truly intends to maintain its 2026 schedule, a firm release date will likely need to be announced relatively soon.
There is already speculation within the community that the date could be revealed around the Tokyo Game Show.
That would certainly make sense thematically, as Forza Horizon 6 takes the series to Japan for the first time.
However, no such presentation has been confirmed.
The game itself features more than 550 vehicles, a large open world, and an extensive campaign. Since its Xbox and PC release, Playground Games has also continued to expand Forza Horizon 6 with additional vehicles, events, and features.
The PS5 version could therefore potentially launch with much of that post-release content already included.
For now, 2026 is once again the official release window
For PlayStation players, the latest statement is encouraging.
Despite credible reports suggesting a possible delay, Playground Games has not changed its publicly stated schedule.
Instead, the studio explicitly repeated on September 7 that the PS5 version will arrive “later this year.”
That means 2026 remains the official release window for now.
Whether Playground Games can ultimately meet that target—and exactly when the PS5 version will arrive—are still questions the studio needs to answer.
