Nearly 15 years after its original release, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North could be making a return. New evidence suggests that Warner Bros. Games may be preparing a remastered version of the cooperative action RPG.
While there has been no official announcement so far, a recent entry in the Steam database has sparked new speculation among fans.
SteamDB entry fuels remaster rumors
The rumors began after a new listing appeared on SteamDB, where the original game was reportedly updated with the label „Legacy Edition.“

A cult classic from 2011
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North was originally released in November 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
The action RPG focused heavily on cooperative gameplay and featured an original story set alongside the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Players could choose between three different heroes and battle the forces threatening Middle-earth while working together through the campaign.
At launch, the game received mixed reviews and currently holds a Metacritic score of around 61.
Classic game revivals remain popular
If the rumors turn out to be true, War in the North would join a growing list of older games receiving modern re-releases.
Over the past few years, many publishers have invested heavily in remasters and remakes, updating classic titles with improved visuals, performance enhancements, and modern features to introduce them to a new generation of players.
Cooperative games from the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era in particular continue to have a passionate fanbase, with many players remembering them fondly.

The SteamDB entry alone does not confirm that a remaster is happening. If a new version is currently in development, an official reveal will likely come at a later date.
