Prices for the PlayStation 5 Pro are surging just weeks before the launch of GTA 6. The console has been scarce at many retailers since late August, and units that are in stock now cost as much as €1,400. This jump is not the result of an official price hike by Sony.
The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the PS5 Pro in Europe remains at 899.99 euros. Third-party sellers on various online marketplaces exploit the shortage by quoting these extreme prices.
Just a few weeks ago, we reported that the PS5 Pro was becoming increasingly scarce ahead of the release of GTA 6, with some retailers charging around €1,300. In the meantime, the situation has apparently worsened once again.

The PS5 Pro is now selling for between €1,200 and €1,400 in some cases
Current market observations show just how difficult it can be right now to get a PS5 Pro at the normal MSRP. For new units available immediately, prices are sometimes between 1,200 and 1,400 euros. At MediaMarkt, a price of more than 1,600 euros even appeared for a while via a marketplace seller.
That’s several hundred euros above Sony’s official price. Check who the actual seller is, because major retailers such as MediaMarkt, Amazon, and Otto host external sellers. A PS5 Pro listed on their sites does not always ship from the retailer itself. When regular stock arrives, the picture can change.
In early September, for example, MediaMarkt took orders for the PS5 Pro at the UVP, with delivery set for early October, and those units sold out quickly.
GTA 6 is likely to further boost demand
The surge coincides with Rockstar Games’ more intense GTA 6 marketing push. On August 27, the studio released the major “Extended Look” trailer, showcasing about 27 minutes of footage from the upcoming open-world title. Since the presentation, demand for current-generation consoles has picked up in several markets. Market researchers reported an increase in combined console sales in the U.S., with PlayStation seeing particularly strong growth. Higher sales figures were also recorded in the U.K. following the presentation.
However, GTA 6 alone cannot be blamed for the current PS5 Pro shortage. Limited inventory and ongoing supply constraints for various hardware components also play a role.
Many gamers apparently want to play GTA 6 on the most powerful PlayStation.
Still, it makes sense that the PS5 Pro is taking center stage. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, first for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version still lacks a confirmed release date.
Anyone who wants the best possible technical experience on PlayStation at launch will therefore gravitate toward the PS5 Pro. GTA 6 is also listed in the PlayStation Store as “PS5 Pro Enhanced.” However, Rockstar has not yet detailed the specific benefits of the more powerful hardware, and a 60 FPS mode remains unconfirmed.
Following the Extended Look, we reported that GTA 6 is still expected to run at 30 FPS on the PS5 Pro. Anyone eyeing a purchase solely for GTA 6 should closely examine the current premium.
€899.99 remains the key benchmark
Sony raised the European MSRP to €899.99 in April 2026, and that price remains in effect. Tags of €1,200, €1,300, or €1,400 reflect market premiums caused by tight supply, not official pricing.
For buyers, the message is clear: patience may pay off. Once Amazon, MediaMarkt, Saturn, or PlayStation Direct receive regular stock again, the PS5 Pro could reappear for 899.99 euros.
Anyone who orders from a third-party seller for €1,400 will pay about €500 extra and won’t receive a better console or any additional accessories.
The situation could remain tight until the GTA 6 release
It’s currently difficult to predict whether availability will return to normal before November 19. Especially with the GTA 6 release drawing nearer, demand could remain high. On the other hand, the past few weeks have shown that new retailer allocations keep popping up.
Anyone currently shopping for a PS5 Pro should check prices and stock levels often and avoid letting extreme marketplace offers pressure them. The fact that some sellers are now asking for €1,400 or more underscores just how tight the market is right now.
