GTA 6 Online: Mysterious Filming in Miami Sparks Speculation

Sports cars from GTA 6, professional film cameras, and real Miami streets have sparked a debate in the Grand Theft Auto community. On Reddit, fans speculate that Rockstar Games is producing a special trailer for the upcoming online mode. Rather than relying solely on in-game footage, the company may be featuring real people and vehicles. However, clues suggest the shoot could also be a promotional production for the Miami Heat, offering another explanation for the unusual filming.

GTA 6 Vehicles Are Being Filmed with Professional Cameras

The latest discussion stems from a November 2, 2026, post in the GTA 6 subreddit. The post shows footage of several eye-catching sports cars being followed by a professional camera crew in Miami.

Particularly notable is a support vehicle carrying a large camera rig that travels alongside the sports cars. Such rigs are common in high-budget commercials and films when crews need to capture moving vehicles from multiple angles. The cars themselves will look familiar to GTA fans.

In October, Miami residents spotted several vehicles modeled after iconic Grand Theft Auto designs, including sports cars resembling the Grotti Cheetah and Progen Emerus, plus a Lamborghini wrapped in the fictional Vice Beach Police livery.

Some cars display “Leonida” license plates, the in-game state where GTA 6 is set. The combination of these vehicles and professional camera gear has sparked fresh speculation. Could Rockstar be shooting another GTA 6 trailer?

Fans suspect it’s a first trailer for GTA 6 Online

The Reddit user behind the latest post has a unique theory. In his view, the footage could be intended for a trailer for the next GTA Online. The reasoning behind this is quite interesting. While previous trailers for GTA 6 have mainly focused on the story of Jason and Lucia as well as the game world of Leonida, a trailer for the multiplayer mode could take a different approach.

After all, that’s where the players themselves take center stage. A commercial featuring real people driving sports cars through Miami could convey exactly that feeling. The message would essentially be: It’s not just Jason and Lucia who are having adventures in Vice City—you, too, can become part of this world. The user also speculates that Rockstar might be gearing the new online mode more toward role-playing.

In such role-playing experiences, players adopt their own roles within the virtual world and shape their stories together with others. However, Rockstar has not confirmed a stronger role-playing focus for GTA 6. The link between the filming and a possible GTA Online trailer remains purely speculative.

New clues point more toward a Miami Heat advertisement

However, one detail contradicts the idea of an official GTA Online trailer.

On October 21, RockstarINTEL reported on the filming. The outlet found that Rockstar Games was not listed as the permit holder; instead, records pointed to a production by 305 Films.

The stated purpose was a social media production tied to “MH Vice.” That abbreviation could refer to the Miami Heat. The NBA team is planning a special GTA 6 event called “A Night in Vice City” that highlights the link between real-life Miami and Rockstar’s fictional setting.

An ad campaign produced specifically for this event would therefore fit well with the vehicles featured in the footage. RockstarINTEL considers this explanation more likely than a standalone trailer for the next GTA Online. Even this does not definitively clarify what all of the footage will be used for. There has been no official confirmation of the exact purpose of the film so far.

Vice City has long since become a reality in Miami

The intense speculation stems from the extraordinary marketing campaign surrounding GTA 6. Rockstar and its advertising partners increasingly highlight real Miami locations, and the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI will emphasize that connection.

As early as mid-October, numerous vehicles with clear references to the game’s world appeared on the streets of Miami. We reported on this in detail on PSINFO in our article “GTA 6 Suddenly Becomes Reality and Vice City Takes Over the Real Streets of Miami.”

Police cars bearing Vice Beach livery and promotional displays at landmark locations also turned heads. The giant “Welcome to Vice City” sign at the Kaseya Center—home of the Miami Heat—has become a visible piece of the GTA 6 marketing push.

Back in September, we covered the elaborate installation that even required a heavy-lift helicopter. You can find the details in our article “GTA 6 Is Now Transforming Miami into Vice City, Piece by Piece.”

Rockstar Opts for Unconventional Advertising

The real-world vehicles and elaborate video footage underscore how unconventional the GTA 6 marketing campaign has become. Instead of relying solely on traditional posters and digital ads, Rockstar is merging the fictional game world with its real-world counterpart. The approach aligns with the game’s theme.

Vice City draws heavily from Miami, and the presentation so far highlights beaches, modern architecture, nightlife, and flashy sports cars. Using real vehicles that match the game world underscores that connection. The advertising plans have also sparked political discussions. In September, Miami Beach facilitated concrete negotiations for a larger GTA 6 campaign.

Some officials had previously expressed concerns because the Grand Theft Auto series regularly depicts violence and crime. We covered the background in our article “Miami Beach Gives GTA 6 the Green Light, and Vice City Could Suddenly Become a Reality.” Subsequent campaigns demonstrate the intense attention the release is generating in Florida.

What do we know about the new GTA Online mode?

One of the biggest unanswered questions still concerns the future of GTA Online. Over more than a decade, GTA 5’s multiplayer mode has evolved into an enormously important part of the brand. There, players can complete missions together, run businesses, race, or move freely in an open-world environment.

The large role-playing community, especially on PC, also runs its own servers and rulesets. In 2023, Rockstar acquired Cfx.re, the team behind the popular multiplayer platforms FiveM and RedM, proving the studio’s deep interest in role-playing.

However, it remains unclear whether or how that expertise will shape a new GTA Online mode in GTA 6. Rockstar has not announced a standalone trailer for a fresh multiplayer experience tied to the current filming, so it’s too soon to infer specific gameplay features or a release date for GTA Online from the footage.

Will there be a new GTA 6 trailer soon?

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, so Rockstar may be preparing additional promotional videos.

However, it remains to be seen whether this will include a standalone trailer for the new online mode. The Miami filming has not yet provided any concrete evidence of this. On the contrary, indications of production for the Miami Heat event suggest the footage could be material for an accompanying promotional campaign.

Nevertheless, the discussion shows just how eagerly fans are now awaiting information about GTA 6’s multiplayer mode. While Rockstar has already released numerous glimpses into the single-player world, the specific plans for the next GTA Online remain one of the most intriguing open questions.

Whether the sports cars will appear in an official trailer, a basketball commercial, or another marketing campaign should become clear in the coming weeks. Source: Reddit. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
