Cyberpunk 2077 will receive a major free update on October 22, 2026, with a special surprise for PlayStation players. CD Projekt Red is finally enabling official mod support on PS5 and PS5 Pro. Patch 2.5 also adds a dual-wield combat style, extra missions, PS5 Pro enhancements, and content from the new Netflix series *Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2*. More than five years after launch, Night City is still growing.
Cyberpunk 2077 finally brings mods to PlayStation 5.
The biggest new feature in Update 2.5 is cross-platform mod support.
In partnership with mod.io, CD Projekt Red will let players install select community mods directly from the in-game menu. As a result, PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S owners will finally gain access to officially supported mods, a perk previously limited to PC players.
The new system is designed to simplify installation: instead of manually editing files, players can browse and install supported mods directly in-game. However, not every existing PC mod will automatically work on consoles. CD Projekt Red calls this a first step toward cross-platform mod support. At launch, only a curated selection will be available, with more planned later. It remains to be seen which extensive modifications will eventually work on PlayStation. Nevertheless, this is a major step for the console version. Over the years, the Cyberpunk community has created numerous features, visual tweaks, and gameplay tweaks.
However, mods on PS5 come with a catch.
However, the feature carries a key limitation: players who load a modified save file on PlayStation or Xbox will not earn new trophies or achievements. To mitigate confusion, CD Projekt Red will stamp such saves with a special icon on the loading screen and group saved games more clearly by playthrough.
This change should stop players from accidentally mixing different characters or modded save files. If you still want to earn trophies, use a separate, unmodified save file. Supported mods at launch and any further restrictions will be confirmed when the update drops.
Finally, Use Two Weapons at Once
In addition to mods, CD Projekt Red is fulfilling another long-standing player request. With Update 2.5, players can wield certain pistols and revolvers simultaneously in both hands.
The new combat style is called Dual Wielding and is unlocked by the “Double Trouble” talent in the “Cool” attribute section; four supporting talents further enhance the playstyle. Players can now craft fresh builds and enter fast-paced firefights with new strategies.
CD Projekt Red limits the feature to “Power” pistols and revolvers, but it still ranks among the most notable gameplay additions in a while.
New Mission Links the Game to Edgerunners 2
The new Netflix series also plays an important role. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has been available in its entirety on Netflix since October 20. The ten-part anime series tells a new story set in Night City. To coincide with this, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting the side mission “Clampdown,” whose plot takes place before the events of the new series.
To unlock it, players must first finish the main quest “The Heist” and two Wakako side quests. After that, the fixer will message you. Completion rewards a five-piece gear set inspired by the anime character King.
The update also adds a new radio station, HKGN 102.0 FM, which plays music from the Edgerunners universe. For more on the anime, read our story “Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 Finally Has a Release Date.”
Another New Quest and Twelve Hidden Tarot Cards
Beyond the anime content, CD Projekt Red is expanding the game world with additional missions. The side mission “Welcome to Paradise!” takes players on a special tour through Night City. It’s accompanied by a narrative about Richard Night, a central figure in the city’s history.
It unlocks after you finish “The Heist” and reach Street Cred Level 15.
Twelve new tarot cards from the Minor Arcana also await discovery, expanding the existing collection quest.
Scanning any of the new cards launches an extra quest line, and completing the full set earns a special reward. Update 2.5 thus gives players who finished the main story fresh reasons to return to Night City.
New Cyberware Designs and Numerous Outfits
The cosmetic updates are also particularly extensive.
Players can now customize the look of several hand implants: Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and the Projectile Launch System. Five new Glamdocs—specialist shops with unique intro sequences, animations, and designs—handle these cosmetic procedures.
Several new clothing collections will also launch at select retailers. Additional hairstyles for V, new Photo Mode poses, and extra vehicle designs round out the update. Twitch Drops will distribute fresh paint jobs for the Quadra Turbo-R V-Tech. Together, these additions expand options for customizing your character’s look.
PS5 Pro and standard PS5 also receive improvements.
In addition to the new content, CD Projekt Red has made various technical adjustments. Of particular interest is a new FOV slider for consoles. This feature lets players adjust the field of view, something previously available mainly on PC.
PS5 Pro owners will also see extra optimizations, with CD Projekt Red citing improved overall performance and ray tracing, though the patch notes list no specific metrics or frame rates. The team has also revamped HDR rendering, so colors, brightness, and contrast now appear more accurate on compatible displays.
The team also fixed a bug that sometimes prevented PS5 HDR settings from taking effect.
PC players will see further technical updates, such as DLSS 4.5 and extra AMD FSR options. Some of these features are locked to specific graphics cards or platforms and will not appear on every console.
Free update arrives October 22
Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 is scheduled for release on Thursday, October 22, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Supported Mac versions will also receive the update, while Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac App Store users will need to wait a few extra days.
The official patch notes did not specify an exact release time for Germany. This update coincides with the launch of *Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2* and brings several major improvements to the core RPG.
Official mod support on PlayStation should draw extra attention, but the extent of available community expansions on PS5 and PS5 Pro remains dependent on ongoing support from mod.io and the developers. Share your thoughts in the comments.
