Diablo V and StarCraft leave PlayStation players in the dark about an important question.

Blizzard has announced two games—Diablo V and the new StarCraft—that won’t launch for several years. Diablo V is scheduled for spring 2029, while the new open-world shooter StarCraft is set to follow in spring 2030. However, one crucial detail is missing from both announcements: Blizzard has not yet specified any platforms. That omission leaves open the possibility of a future PlayStation release. The 2029–2030 window naturally prompts speculation about a potential PlayStation 6, but Blizzard has not confirmed such a version, nor has Sony announced any concrete plans to bring these titles to its next console.

Diablo V won’t launch until 2029

Diablo V was officially unveiled this past weekend at BlizzCon. Blizzard has cited spring 2029 as the release window and has already shared initial details about the story and classes. Regarding the list of platforms, however, the official announcement remains conspicuously silent.

Neither PlayStation, Xbox, nor PC is mentioned in connection with Diablo V. That omission is unusual but understandable given the distant release window. By 2029, the console landscape is likely to have changed significantly. Which systems will be current at that time and how Microsoft handles its own platform strategy may also change by then.

The new StarCraft is also missing from the platform list

The situation is even more extreme with the new StarCraft. According to Blizzard, the game won’t launch until spring 2030 and transforms the well-known strategy series into a story-driven open-world shooter. Again, Blizzard cites only the release window and no specific platforms.

Push Square has already asked whether both titles could launch on the next PlayStation generation, but for now that remains pure speculation.

Historically, the odds favor Diablo

At the very least, the series’ history gives PlayStation players a reason not to rule out a PlayStation version. Diablo III launched on PlayStation 3 and later on PlayStation 4. Diablo IV released simultaneously for PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC in 2023. Blizzard therefore already has an established Diablo player base on PlayStation.

Even after acquiring Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has not ruled out PlayStation releases for major multiplayer and live-service games.

Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty stated in June 2026 that major multiplayer and live-service games would continue to launch on multiple platforms, yet Microsoft also clarified that other first-party titles could remain true Xbox console exclusives. There is therefore no blanket rule for all Microsoft games.

StarCraft is much harder to assess

There are fewer historical precedents for the new StarCraft. The main series has traditionally been at home on PC and has never appeared on a PlayStation console. The new title, however, differs fundamentally from its predecessors.

Instead of a real-time strategy game, Blizzard is now crafting an open-world shooter that better suits traditional console controls. Even so, that does not guarantee a PlayStation release. Microsoft now owns StarCraft outright and decides on a project-by-project basis which games launch on rival consoles.

Xbox Will No Longer Rely on a Single Strategy in 2026

That ambiguity makes prediction difficult. Some Microsoft games still launch on PlayStation, yet Xbox has explicitly stated that titles such as *Gears of War: E-Day* and *Clockwork Revolution* will remain permanent console exclusives, not timed ones.

For major ongoing multiplayer titles, however, Microsoft adopts a more open approach. Only Microsoft and Blizzard know where Diablo V and StarCraft currently fit in that structure.

The existing PlayStation audience for Diablo could push a multiplatform launch, while Microsoft might favor StarCraft as an exclusive. That remains speculation.

A PS5 version hasn’t been officially ruled out either.

It’s also interesting that people often automatically refer to the PS6 and the next Xbox.

Although a 2029–2030 launch window points to new hardware, Blizzard has not explicitly ruled out PS5 or Xbox Series versions. No one knows how long the current console generation will remain supported.

Diablo IV launched as a cross-generation title on PS4 and PS5, so Diablo V could follow suit. A technically demanding open-world StarCraft might require newer hardware, but no official details have surfaced.

For PlayStation players, the wait continues.

The two major Blizzard announcements share an unusual commonality. We already know the general storylines, genres, and even distant release windows. What we don’t know is what platforms these games will actually run on. Diablo V launches in spring 2029.

STARCRAFT is scheduled for spring 2030, one year later. By that point, PlayStation and Xbox may already be on new hardware. Whether Blizzard will support as many platforms as possible or if Microsoft will enforce exclusivity remains unclear so close to launch.

If you want to play Diablo V or StarCraft on PlayStation, don’t assume there will be a PS6 version—or that there won’t be one. Blizzard has not confirmed anything yet. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
