GTA 6 is expected to be 210 GB, and PS5 players might start running out of space

GTA 6 is expected to be massive, both in gameplay and storage space. After months of circulating estimates, there’s now a concrete new figure for the download size. According to this, Rockstar’s upcoming open-world adventure is said to require a whopping 210 gigabytes. The data originates from the well-known account PlayStation Game Size and has since been corroborated by gaming magazine Insider Gaming, though Rockstar has not yet officially confirmed the figure.

GTA 6 is expected to require 210 GB of storage space

The account PlayStation Game Size, which specializes in PlayStation data, posted the specific figure regarding the download size of Grand Theft Auto 6 on X on October 27, 2026. According to the post, the PS5 version is expected to be around 210 GB.

Insider Gaming later echoed the claim, stating it had independently verified the figure. That distinction separates this report from earlier speculation based only on estimates or dubious screenshots.
However, key details remain unclear. Neither Rockstar Games nor Sony has officially confirmed the 210 GB size. There is no publicly verifiable breakdown of the game files, and it remains unclear whether the figure represents the day-one download or a future update. Until Rockstar or Sony confirms the number, treat it as a well-supported but unconfirmed report.

Nearly a third of the PS5’s usable storage

If confirmed, GTA 6 would occupy a significant chunk of the console’s storage. The base PlayStation 5 includes an 825 GB SSD, but only about 667 GB is available to users.

That would consume nearly one-third of the console’s usable storage. Players who already run several large titles may face even tougher choices. Regular Call of Duty or Fortnite installs, for instance, could force them to free up space. The PlayStation 5 Slim eases the pressure somewhat thanks to its larger internal SSD.

The PlayStation 5 Pro offers 2 TB of internal storage, providing far more headroom. Even so, updates, downloadable content, and future expansions can still push storage needs higher, a key factor for an open-world game with long-term support.

Earlier rumors even suggested over 600 GB

The size of GTA 6 has been debated for months. Alleged screenshots from digital stores surfaced online, suggesting enormous storage requirements. One figure—676.7 GB—even went viral. However, that claim proved to be a hoax.

That screenshot came from a satirical account and even mentioned Xbox One, a platform where GTA 6 is not scheduled to launch. Other rumors have pointed to sizes between 150 and 300 GB, and those figures remain unconfirmed.

We previously reported, in our article “GTA 6 in Native 4K for the First Time? New Leak Sparks Discussion,” that GTA 6 might require more than 200 GB, though no verifiable technical evidence existed at the time. The newly cited 210 GB falls within that range but still does not constitute definitive proof.

Why GTA 6 Might Require So Much Storage

It should come as no surprise that Rockstar is developing a particularly large game. GTA 6 is set to take players to the fictional U.S. state of Leonida, centered around a reimagined Vice City.

Beyond the main metropolis, players will roam smaller towns and varied landscapes. Elaborate character models, extensive animations, a vast vehicle roster, and a richly detailed world add to the load. High-resolution textures, voice recordings, and meticulously crafted environments can also balloon the file size.

However, actual storage needs will depend on Rockstar’s data compression and the console build. World size alone cannot predict download weight, and impressive visuals do not always demand more space than comparable titles.

GTA 6 will be available for pre-download starting November 12

Players likely won’t have to wait much longer for a definitive answer. The pre-download for GTA 6 is scheduled to begin on November 12, 2026, giving pre-order customers a week to download the game files before launch.

The official release is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Once the full download becomes available, players should be able to confirm the actual storage requirements. This information may also interest players with slow internet connections.

At 210 GB, the download could take several hours—or even significantly longer—depending on internet speed.

Anyone who wants to play GTA 6 at launch should check well in advance to ensure they have enough storage space. On the PlayStation 5, unused games can be deleted and redownloaded later. Alternatively, players can expand available storage with a compatible M.2 SSD.

The size has not yet been officially confirmed

The report from PlayStation Game Size is notable, especially since Insider Gaming claims to have confirmed the 210 GB figure. Nevertheless, players should not yet treat this number as a final technical specification.

Rockstar Games has not yet released an official download size. It also remains to be seen whether the Xbox version will have the same storage requirements and how large any updates might be at launch. If this figure is confirmed, GTA 6 would be one of the largest games on current-generation consoles.
