With around three months remaining until the launch of GTA 6, Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster may have already reached sales numbers that many games can only dream of after release. According to a recent estimate, more than four million copies of Grand Theft Auto 6 may have already been pre-ordered.
Rockstar Games and Take-Two have not released any official pre-order figures, meaning the number should not be treated as confirmed. Still, the estimate provides an interesting indication of just how massive the November launch could be.
GTA 6 reportedly has more than four million pre-orders
According to a report from TheGamer, current estimates suggest that GTA 6 has already surpassed four million pre-orders.
What makes that number particularly impressive is the timing. Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19, 2026, meaning the game is still several months away from release.
Pre-orders only opened on June 25. If the estimate is even roughly accurate, Rockstar would have secured millions of sales in less than two months.
However, the figure should be approached with caution. Neither Rockstar Games nor parent company Take-Two Interactive has provided official pre-order numbers, making it impossible to independently verify the estimate using confirmed sales data.
GTA 6 is launching with enormous expectations
Extraordinary demand for GTA 6 would hardly come as a surprise. Few video game franchises can match the commercial success of Grand Theft Auto.
GTA 5 has now sold more than 225 million copies, while the entire Grand Theft Auto franchise has surpassed 465 million units.
That gives GTA 6 an enormous legacy to follow.
At the same time, Rockstar has barely needed a traditional marketing campaign to generate attention. The first trailers immediately became major global events, while almost every new screenshot, detail, or rumor surrounding the game continues to generate discussion across the gaming community.
If the latest pre-order estimate is accurate, it would provide another indication of the extraordinary demand surrounding the game long before launch.
Rockstar is offering multiple GTA 6 editions
GTA 6 has been available to pre-order for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S since late June.
The Standard Edition costs $79.99, while Rockstar is also offering an Ultimate Edition for $99.99.
Players who pre-order digitally will be able to preload the game starting November 12, allowing them to download the massive release ahead of its official launch on November 19.
The physical release is also attracting attention. Rockstar is offering a boxed version, but instead of a traditional game disc, the package contains a download code.
Given the ongoing debate surrounding physical games, digital ownership, and game preservation, that decision is likely to remain a controversial topic among some players.
The real sales explosion could still be ahead
Four million pre-orders would already represent an impressive achievement, but the bigger question is what happens once GTA 6 actually launches.
GTA 5 broke multiple records when it arrived in 2013, generating more than $1 billion in revenue within its first few days.
GTA 6 is launching under very different circumstances. The Grand Theft Auto brand has grown even larger, GTA Online has built a massive global community over more than a decade, and the upcoming sequel has remained one of the world’s most anticipated games since its announcement.
Whether GTA 6 has truly surpassed four million pre-orders remains unconfirmed for now.
Once Take-Two releases its first official sales figures, we’ll have a much clearer picture of whether the current estimates were accurate—and just how enormous the GTA 6 launch really is.
