After months of rumors and speculation, it’s now official: Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are making their return on PlayStation consoles.
Treyarch has confirmed that both fan-favorite shooters will launch for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in July 2026, giving players a chance to revisit two of the most beloved entries in the franchise.
Two Legendary Call of Duty Titles Return
While Activision has focused heavily on the Modern Warfare series in recent years, fans of the Black Ops saga are finally getting some good news.
The original releases debuted in:
- Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (2012)
To this day, many players consider them among the greatest Call of Duty games ever made.
Developed for Modern PlayStation Hardware
The new versions are being handled by Iron Galaxy, a studio known for working on several major projects over the years.
Their previous work includes:
- Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4
- Fortnite PlayStation versions
- Fallout 76 PlayStation versions
- PC ports of The Last of Us
Now the studio is bringing two of Treyarch’s most iconic shooters to modern PlayStation systems.
The Return of Alex Mason
One of the biggest reasons Black Ops remains so popular is its memorable story and characters.
Players will once again follow Alex Mason through one of the most iconic campaigns in Call of Duty history, while Black Ops 2 continues the story with its futuristic setting and branching narrative elements.
For many fans, this will be the first opportunity to experience these games natively on modern PlayStation hardware.

While Treyarch has not yet revealed full technical details, fans are hoping for:
