"The Witcher 3" receives a surprising PS5 update, putting Sony players in the spotlight.

CD Projekt RED continues to fix technical issues in *The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered*. On October 13, 2026, the team released Hotfix 5.01b, an update for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro owners. The patch is meant to boost overall stability for a more reliable play session. The developer did not list specific bug fixes. This release follows Patch 5.01 by only a few days; that update already delivered numerous graphical improvements, extra settings, and optimizations. The remastered version still has issues to iron out.

New Update Released Specifically for PS5 and PS5 Pro

CD Projekt RED announced the update via The Witcher’s official account, stating that Hotfix 5.01b is now available for both current PlayStation models. The post does not mention other platforms. The developers say the changes boost stability to make the experience more reliable.

There is no detailed change list this time, and CD Projekt RED did not announce the download size. As a result, players cannot yet confirm which bugs the team fixed.

Players had previously reported technical issues

Since the September 29 launch of The Witcher 3 Remastered, some PS5 and PS5 Pro players have reported micro-stuttering, uneven frame rates, occasional crashes, and issues with ray-tracing visuals.
However, the technical experience varies greatly.

Some players encounter frequent problems, while others have logged many hours without major issues, making it hard to gauge the bugs’ prevalence.

The new hotfix may specifically address reported stability issues, but CD Projekt RED has not confirmed whether it has eliminated all crash causes. Major Update 5.01 Had Already Fixed Numerous Bugs

On October 8, CD Projekt RED rolled out a much larger update, version 5.01. That patch improved lighting, colors, ray tracing, and character rendering. It also added console options for bloom, light shafts, and depth of field.

These options let players tweak certain effects directly in the graphics menu for the first time. On the standard PS5, the update also fixed broken frame-rate limits in several graphics modes and resolved issues with reset settings and overly quiet dialogue.

For a detailed overview, see our article “The Witcher 3 Looks Significantly Better After New Update, and Players Are Surprised.” Today’s hotfix builds on these changes but, according to the developers, prioritizes stability.

The PS5 Pro, in particular, is under scrutiny

The Remastered version also adds special support for the PlayStation 5 Pro, enabling improved graphics, extra rendering technologies, and PSSR.

Under the right conditions, the more powerful console can also achieve higher frame rates. However, the extensive technical changes did not result in a consistently smooth experience for all players. Some users reported noticeable fluctuations, particularly in ray-tracing mode.

Others played without issues. That does not mean the PS5 Pro is inherently more bug-prone than the standard console. CD Projekt RED does not list separate fixes for the two models in Hotfix 5.01b, so both should see improved stability.

Should players install the update?

Anyone playing *The Witcher 3 Remastered* on PS5 or PS5 Pro should install the new update as soon as it becomes available. Since this is a technical hotfix, it adds no new quests, gear, or other content, nor any extra graphics modes.

Instead, it prioritizes the reliability of the existing remaster. Players who previously encountered frequent crashes can re-test those scenarios after installing the update, though CD Projekt RED offers no guarantee that every bug has been fixed.

CD Projekt RED continues to work on the remaster.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launched only two weeks ago but has already received several updates. The major free upgrade modernized the role-playing game with revamped lighting, improved animations, new convenience features, and changes to the combat system.

The PS5 Pro’s extra capabilities are also among the headline additions. The rapid fixes suggest that the extensive overhaul still needs further technical adjustments. Hotfix 5.01b is a targeted update for Sony’s consoles.

It remains to be seen whether CD Projekt RED will release more detailed information about the fixed issues in the coming days. For PS5 and PS5 Pro players, the most important thing for now is that the developers are responding to the ongoing stability issues and continuing their work on The Witcher 3 Remastered.
