Forza Horizon 6 has taken another unexpected turn. Despite recent reports that the PlayStation 5 version could slip to 2027, Playground Games maintains its 2026 launch plan. In a September 7 post, the developer states that Forza Horizon 6 is still coming to PS5 “later this year.” However, an exact release date remains unannounced.
The statement revives uncertainty about the PlayStation version. Just days earlier, well-connected sources had questioned whether Playground Games could meet its original launch window. Officially, though, nothing has changed.
Playground Games continues to target 2026.
The key information comes from the latest official Forza blog post covering the British Automotive update. In the post, Playground Games introduces new content for the already available Xbox and PC versions before addressing PlayStation players directly. The studio tells players planning to begin their journey through Japan on PS5 to stay tuned, adding that Forza Horizon 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 later this year and can already be added to wishlists via the PlayStation Store.
The post went live on September 7, 2026, so it is a fresh statement from Playground Games, not a holdover from the original January announcement.
Recent reports had suddenly pointed toward 2027
That timing is notable. At the end of August, The Verge reporter Tom Warren said he no longer expected Forza Horizon 6 to launch on PS5 in 2026. Shortly afterward, IGN reported the same based on its own sources. Neither Microsoft nor Playground Games ever officially announced a delay.
At the time, this created two conflicting accounts: reports from credible sources suggesting a push to 2027, and Microsoft’s public release window continuing to point toward 2026. Playground Games has now reiterated that original release window once again.
Is a delay still possible?
Not necessarily. The new statement is currently the most recent official information from the developer. Based on the public stance, Forza Horizon 6 is still expected to release on PS5 in 2026. That doesn’t tell us whether there are still internal concerns about the schedule.
The wording in the latest blog post may have been drafted earlier, or development plans could still change behind the scenes. Until Playground Games explicitly confirms a 2027 launch, the official timeline remains 2026.
There is still no exact PS5 release date
The biggest question remains: when exactly will Forza Horizon 6 arrive on PlayStation 5? You can already add the title to your wishlist on the PlayStation Store, but no specific release date appears. The remaining window is narrowing.
Forza Horizon 6 launched for Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026, so if the PS5 version is still planned for this year, Playground Games has only a few months left to release it.
November is shaping up as a crowded month: GTA 6 arrives on November 19, and Microsoft has already shifted Fable to February 2027 to avoid overlap. It’s unclear whether Forza Horizon 6 will launch before GTA 6 or hold off until December.
An announcement may be imminent.
If Playground Games intends to stick to its 2026 schedule, an announcement seems imminent. Fans speculate that the date could drop around the Tokyo Game Show, which would fit the game’s Japan setting.
No such presentation has been confirmed. The game offers more than 550 vehicles, a vast open world, and an extensive campaign. Since its Xbox and PC launch, Playground Games has expanded Forza Horizon 6 with additional vehicles, events, and features, so the PS5 version could ship with much of that post-release content.
For now, 2026 remains the official release window
For PlayStation players, the latest statement is encouraging. Despite credible reports suggesting a possible delay, Playground Games has not changed its publicly stated schedule. Instead, the studio explicitly reiterated on September 7 that the PS5 version will arrive “later this year.”
That means 2026 remains the official release window for now. Whether Playground Games can ultimately meet that target—and exactly when the PS5 version will arrive—are still questions the studio needs to answer.
