The studio described seeing unfinished footage released this way as “heartbreaking” for the development team and is asking players to avoid further spoilers. However, the statement also contains one particularly interesting update: according to Rockstar, GTA 6 is now nearly finished.
The past few days have been anything but quiet for Grand Theft Auto 6.
Gameplay videos apparently taken from a playable version of Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster have repeatedly appeared online, with some clips attracting millions of views across social media.

GTA 6 leaks were “heartbreaking” for Rockstar
In its message to the community, Rockstar acknowledged that many fans had been waiting for the company to address the leaks.
For the developers themselves, the situation has apparently been particularly difficult.
Rockstar described seeing GTA 6 gameplay revealed in this way as “heartbreaking”, making it clear that this was obviously not how the team wanted players to experience their first extended look at the game.
Grand Theft Auto 6 represents years of work from a huge development team.
Unfinished footage can also create an impression that developers would never choose to present as representative of the final product.
Rockstar says GTA 6 is “nearly there”
Hidden among Rockstar’s comments about the leaks is also a significant update regarding the game’s development.
The studio apologized for things taking longer than originally expected, both when it comes to finishing GTA 6 itself and releasing new information and official gameplay.
But when discussing the game’s current development status, Rockstar added two particularly interesting words:
“Nearly there!”
That strongly suggests GTA 6 is now approaching completion.
With the game currently scheduled to launch on November 19, development would naturally be expected to be in a very advanced stage by now.
The remaining months are therefore likely to focus heavily on bug fixes, optimization, performance improvements, and final polish ahead of release.
Rockstar asks fans to avoid further spoilers
The leaked footage has created another concern for the studio: spoilers.
Rockstar acknowledged that some parts of the intended experience may already have been affected by material appearing online before players were supposed to see it.
The company is therefore asking fans to wait a little longer and experience GTA 6 for themselves when it launches in November.

The timing of Rockstar’s statement is particularly interesting because the next major official GTA 6 presentation is now just hours away.
On August 27, 2026, Rockstar will present Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look.
In Germany, the presentation will initially premiere through Netflix at 9:00 PM.
Six hours later, the footage will also become available for free through YouTube and the official GTA 6 website.
Rockstar says completing this presentation also took longer than originally expected, but the studio wants to ensure that what it shows ultimately exceeds players‘ expectations.
After days dominated by unofficial footage, Rockstar will finally have the opportunity to put GTA 6 back in the spotlight on its own terms.
Take-Two is taking action against the leaks
While Rockstar has now publicly addressed the situation, parent company Take-Two Interactive has already been taking a more aggressive approach behind the scenes.
Recent legal action has reportedly been initiated in an effort to obtain information from companies including Microsoft and Discord.
Take-Two apparently wants to identify the individuals or accounts responsible for distributing certain GTA 6 leaks.
Numerous videos have also already been removed from online platforms.
The response makes it clear just how seriously Rockstar and Take-Two are treating the unauthorized release of GTA 6 material.
Rockstar thanks fans for their support
Rockstar ended its statement on a much more personal note.
The studio thanked players who sent supportive messages to the development team throughout the past week, saying those messages meant more to the developers than fans might realize.
Rockstar also emphasized that GTA 6 is ultimately being created for its community and that the studio wouldn’t have the opportunity to continue making games of this scale without its players.
After an unusually chaotic week, Rockstar is clearly trying to shift attention back toward what’s coming next.
And fortunately, fans won’t have to wait much longer for official footage.
