Dying Light 3 Leak Hints at Japan Setting for the Next Game

New rumors surrounding Dying Light 3 are currently gaining attention online. According to recent leaks, the next main entry in Techland’s zombie franchise could take place in Japan for the very first time.

Accidental assets spark speculation

The latest speculation started after players discovered unfinished “Asian Street” assets inside a recent Dying Light 2 update. The leaked files reportedly feature modern urban environments that strongly resemble Japanese city streets.

Some of the assets are still missing textures, suggesting they come from an early development build. Similar accidental leaks have previously revealed hints about upcoming projects in other major franchises.

Older story leaks match the new findings

The newly discovered assets also appear to line up with older story leaks connected to Dying Light: The Beast. According to those earlier reports, the GRE headquarters is supposedly located somewhere on the coast of Japan.

Since the organization is expected to remain central to the story moving forward, many fans now believe Dying Light 3 could fully shift its setting to Japan.

A new setting could change the atmosphere completely

A modern Japanese city would offer a very different atmosphere compared to previous games in the series. Dense urban areas, neon-lit streets, vertical architecture, and rooftop traversal could work perfectly with Dying Light’s parkour-focused gameplay.

Fans are already imagining how nighttime horror sequences and infected chases could evolve in such an environment.

Story may conclude the current saga

Reports suggest that Dying Light 3 could wrap up the ongoing storyline involving Crane, Aiden, and the GRE organization. Dying Light: The Beast already moved the franchise toward a darker and more serious tone, something many longtime fans appreciated.

The next mainline entry could continue that direction while introducing a completely fresh setting.

Techland remains silent for now

Techland has not officially confirmed Dying Light 3 or responded to the recent leaks. As a result, all current information should still be treated as speculation.

Even so, the leaked assets have already generated major discussion within the community.

Expectations for the next game are rising

Following mixed reactions to Dying Light 2, many players are hoping the franchise returns to a stronger horror identity. A new setting and a more focused story could help the series evolve in a major way.
