Forza Horizon 6 is still on track for a 2026 release on PS5.

Forza Horizon 6 has taken a surprising turn. After recent reports claimed the PlayStation 5 version could slip to 2027, Playground Games has officially reaffirmed its commitment to a 2026 launch. In a September 7 post, the team states that Forza Horizon 6 is still on track to arrive “later this year” on PS5. However, a specific date is still missing. This makes the situation surrounding the PlayStation version interesting once again. Just a few days ago, well-connected sources had expressed doubts that Playground Games would even be able to meet the originally announced timeframe. Officially, however, nothing seems to have changed so far.

Playground Games Still Cites 2026

The key clue appears in the latest official Forza blog post about the British Automotive Update. There, Playground Games showcases new content for the already available Xbox and PC versions. Almost as an aside, the studio then addresses PlayStation players directly, telling anyone planning a trip through Japan on PS5 to stay tuned. Forza Horizon 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 later this year and is already available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store. The post was published on September 7, 2026, making it a current statement from Playground Games rather than a recycled product description.

Just days ago, 2027 was suddenly being mentioned

This is notable because the picture looked different at the end of August. The Verge reporter Tom Warren said he no longer expected to see Forza Horizon 6 on the PS5 in 2026, and IGN soon reported the same based on its own sources.

Neither Microsoft nor Playground Games ever announced an official delay. We therefore noted at the end of August that two conflicting sources existed: reports of a possible delay and Microsoft’s still-valid 2026 announcement. Now Playground Games has reiterated the original timeline.

Does this mean a delay is finally off the table?

The picture is not fully clear, though. For now, this new statement is the developer’s most recent official word. Based on current public information, Forza Horizon 6 is still scheduled to launch on PS5 in 2026. However, we don’t know if this has completely dispelled internal doubts.

For example, the mention in the latest blog post might come from pre-written text, and internal plans could still change. However, as long as Playground Games continues to communicate an 2026 release, a 2027 launch remains unconfirmed. For now, official statements point to 2026.

A specific PS5 release date is still missing

However, Playground Games still hasn’t answered the most important question. When exactly will Forza Horizon 6 be released on the PlayStation 5? The racing game can already be added to a wish list on the official PlayStation website, but an exact release date isn’t listed there yet.

The window is narrowing. Forza Horizon 6 launched on May 19, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S and PC, so if the PS5 version arrives later this year, Playground Games has only a few months left.

November is shaping up as a crowded month: GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, and Microsoft already moved Fable from fall to February 2027 to give the RPG its own release window. As a result, it’s unclear whether Forza Horizon 6 will launch before GTA 6 or slip to December.

An announcement could be coming soon

If Playground Games still plans a 2026 launch, the studio will need to announce a date soon. Fans are speculating that an announcement could come around the Tokyo Game Show, since Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan for the first time. However, no presentation has been confirmed.

The game itself brings the Horizon series to Japan and features more than 550 vehicles, a vast open-world environment, and an extensive campaign. Since its Xbox and PC release, Forza Horizon 6 has also been continuously expanded with new vehicles, events, and features. The PS5 version is expected to receive this additional content right at launch.

The 2026 release window remains confirmed

For PlayStation players, today’s statement is therefore good news for now. Despite credible reports of a possible delay, Playground Games has not changed the timeframe. Instead, on September 7, the studio once again explicitly referred to a PS5 release “later this year.” This means that 2026 remains the official release date for now.

Playground Games has yet to confirm that it can meet that schedule or announce an exact PS5 launch date. Share your thoughts in the comments.
