Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially confirmed a new price increase for PlayStation Plus Essential, the base tier of its subscription service.
The changes will take effect starting May 20, 2026, and will initially apply to new subscribers in selected regions.
Monthly and Quarterly Plans Are Getting More Expensive
According to Sony, the price increase mainly affects the shorter subscription options for PlayStation Plus Essential.

The updated pricing is as follows:
1 Month PlayStation Plus Essential
- previous price: £6.99 / $9.99
- new price: £7.99 / $10.99
3 Month PlayStation Plus Essential
- previous price: £19.99 / $24.99
- new price: £21.99 / $27.99
Interestingly, the 12-month subscription option currently appears to remain unchanged.
Existing Subscribers Will Keep Current Prices for Now
Sony also confirmed that the new pricing will mainly affect new subscribers.
Current PlayStation Plus members will reportedly continue paying their existing rates unless their subscription expires, changes, or lapses.
However, Sony specifically mentioned that subscribers in Turkey and India may still be impacted even if they already have an active membership.
Sony Cites “Ongoing Market Conditions”
As the reason behind the increase, Sony pointed to “ongoing market conditions.” The company did not provide additional details regarding the exact factors behind the decision.
Sony also has not clarified which specific regions are affected, only stating that the changes apply to “select regions.”
Another Price Increase for PS Plus
The latest adjustment continues the broader trend of rising subscription prices across the gaming industry.
Over the past few years, PlayStation Plus has already seen multiple price increases affecting Essential, Extra, and Premium memberships.
This time, Sony appears to be specifically targeting shorter subscription plans while keeping the yearly option unchanged for now.
More Changes Could Follow Later
It remains unclear whether PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium could also receive further price increases in the future.
Likewise, Sony has not confirmed whether additional regions may be added to the updated pricing structure later on.
