Resident Evil Requiem may soon receive one of the franchise’s most popular extra modes. New datamining discoveries are currently fueling speculation that Capcom could be planning the return of Mercenaries.
Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but fans are already excited.
Datamining Reveals Unused Music Tracks
Dataminer SYRKOV recently discovered several unused music tracks hidden in the files of Resident Evil Requiem.
According to reports, there are ten tracks in total that currently do not appear anywhere in the base game.
Some of these tracks reportedly have a much more action-focused tone, leading many fans to believe they may be tied to a future game mode.
Tracks Hint at Timer-Based Gameplay
What makes the discovery even more interesting is that some of the music tracks seem to include ticking sounds.
This immediately reminded fans of Mercenaries Mode, where players have to defeat as many enemies as possible before the timer runs out.
In previous versions of Mercenaries, players could extend their remaining time by defeating enemies, making the ticking audio a potential clue.
Capcom Already Confirmed a Free Extra Mode
Capcom has already announced that Resident Evil Requiem will receive a free additional game mode in the future.
However, the company has not revealed what that mode will be.
Since Mercenaries was included in both Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake, many fans believe it would make sense for the mode to return once again.
This would be especially fitting given the positive response to Resident Evil Requiem’s combat system.
Leon Expansion Also Rumored
Alongside the Mercenaries rumors, reports claim that Capcom is also working on a larger story expansion for the game.
According to speculation, the expansion may focus on Leon S. Kennedy.
For now, Capcom has not officially announced either the expansion or the possible return of Mercenaries.
