Sony has unveiled a new limited-edition DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5. The special edition blends the iconic white DualSense shell with racing motifs, a carbon-fiber look, and unique touchpad details to mark the upcoming 30th anniversary of Gran Turismo. The controller is scheduled for release on December 10, 2026, and German gamers can also purchase it, though limited quantities may drive high demand.
The timing is strategic: Sony has also revealed details of the substantial Spec IV update for Gran Turismo 7. Part one drops overnight on October 15 and adds six new vehicles, a fresh racetrack, and extra features.
Gran Turismo Gets Its Own DualSense Controller
The new special edition is officially named the DualSense Wireless Controller Gran Turismo Limited Edition. Sony’s design draws inspiration from the racing game series’ long history and combines modern PlayStation technology with various elements from motorsports. It’s based on the familiar white DualSense controller.
The grips display special graphics and symbols that echo the Gran Turismo aesthetic. The touchpad design is especially striking: racing stripes contrast sharply with the light-colored shell. The area around the analog sticks also receives a distinctive visual treatment.
The analog-stick rings sport a carbon-fiber finish that echoes modern racing materials.
Under the hood, it remains true to the standard DualSense formula; Sony has not added any new buttons, features, or hardware upgrades. As a result, the controller targets Gran Turismo fans and collectors who want to give their PlayStation setup a distinctive look.
Sony is celebrating nearly 30 years of Gran Turismo.
The special edition is part of the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the Gran Turismo series. The first game launched in December 1997 on the original PlayStation in Japan.
The franchise will actually turn 30 at the end of 2027, but Sony is kicking off the celebrations early and pairing them with new content for Gran Turismo 7. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said at the unveiling that Gran Turismo began with the goal of sharing the beauty and fascination of automobiles with as many people as possible.
With this new special edition, the team aims to look back on this long journey while also thanking the fans who have supported the series over the years. Since its first installment, Gran Turismo has evolved into one of the most recognizable PlayStation brands of all time.
Its blend of realistic vehicle rendering, vast car collections, and challenging tracks has made the series an integral part of PlayStation history for many players. Even today, Gran Turismo 7 remains one of the most important racing games on PS5 and PS4.
Pre-orders begin on October 22
Anyone eager to secure the new controller should circle October 22, 2026, on their calendar. Pre-orders begin at 10 a.m. CET through the official PlayStation Store and participating retailers. Sony has explicitly confirmed that the special edition will also launch in Germany.
The suggested retail price is €84.99, matching previous limited-edition DualSense models. The global launch is set for December 10, 2026, but Sony says supplies will be limited.
Sony has not revealed how many units are allocated to the German market nor whether it will restock after launch, so anyone eager to secure this controller should monitor the official pre-order channels.
Gran Turismo 7 is also adding six new cars at the same time.
Alongside the controller announcement, Sony continues to support Gran Turismo 7.
The first portion of the major Spec IV update will launch in Germany on October 15 at 8 a.m. local time. The update adds six new vehicles. They are the futuristic Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo, the 1994 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta, and the 1987 Honda Civic Si Group A.
Rounding out the list are the 2026 Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo, the 2023 Honda Step WGN Spada Premium Line, and the 1986 Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston. The update spans modern electric hypercars, classic sports cars, and quirky everyday rides.
The Ferrari F355 Berlinetta, one of the most famous sports cars of the 1990s, will likely draw the most attention, while the Citroën 2 CV proves that Polyphony Digital does not focus exclusively on fast or expensive cars. As usual, some of the new vehicles must be purchased or unlocked using in-game credits.
Sportsland Sugo Expands the Race Tracks
Polyphony Digital is also adding the well-known Japanese circuit Sportsland Sugo. Located in Miyagi Prefecture, the track features varied turns, elevation changes, and the iconic Dunlop Bridge.
Its varied corners, elevation changes, and the distinctive Dunlop Bridge suit both classic touring cars and modern race cars. Experienced players will likely find the technical layout particularly interesting because Sportsland Sugo demands not only high speed but also precise braking and clean line selection.
The update also adds six new World Circuit events, fresh Scapes photo locations, a refined vehicle view, and an Experience Mode, giving players more ways to race, admire their cars, and explore the Gran Turismo universe.
Gran Turismo 7 Will Receive Additional Content in December
This patch is only the first part of the Spec IV update. Sony announced in September that the expansion would ship in two phases. The second wave, due in December, will add more cars, tracks, and gameplay features.
A classic track will return, and a new Family Mode will make Gran Turismo 7 more accessible to a wider range of ages and skill levels. We previously covered the original announcement and these updates in our weekly gaming roundup of State of Play and other major PlayStation news.
With the new controller and the extensive Spec IV update, Sony is now preparing for the anniversary on multiple fronts.
Is the limited-edition controller worth it?
For owners of a working DualSense, the new Gran Turismo edition is not a necessary upgrade; the game still works with any compatible standard DualSense controller.
According to the information confirmed so far, the special edition offers no additional racing features and no technical advantages over the standard model. Its appeal lies rather in its unique design and collector’s value.
Fans who have followed Gran Turismo since the original PlayStation may especially appreciate the racing-themed design, and it could complement other limited-edition PlayStation controllers. It is unclear whether the special edition will actually become scarce after launch, as Sony has only announced limited quantities.
One thing is certain: pre-orders open on October 22 for €84.99, and the controller launches worldwide on December 10. Until then, Gran Turismo fans can look forward to the first part of Spec IV, which adds six new vehicles and the Sportsland Sugo track to the game starting October 15.
