A gameplay video for Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival has led to serious consequences for a French YouTuber. The content creator, known as j0nathan, says YouTube permanently deleted his channel, which had roughly 190,000 subscribers. The platform claims a video featuring scenes from the new horror title violated its policies on sexual content and nudity. The controversy stems from j0nathan’s assertion that he had already blurred the explicit material.
The incident has sparked new discussions about the moderation of video game content ahead of the October 8, 2026, release of *Hellraiser: Revival*. For the affected creator, this is about much more than a single video; he says he has lost years of work and his livelihood.
YouTube Apparently Deletes Ten Years of Work
The French YouTuber had uploaded gameplay footage from Hellraiser: Revival, including explicit scenes from the game’s opening that he claims he censored with black bars to comply with platform rules.

Despite this precaution, the video was flagged. As the creator reported on Reddit on September 25, he initially received a warning—or a strike—for nudity.
Four days later, the platform deleted his entire channel even though he had not uploaded any new videos. He says the move cost him a decade of work and more than 3,000 published videos, as well as a major income stream.
YouTuber Accuses Platform of Incorrect Assessment
He is contesting the decision, arguing that the video was standard gameplay content for an officially released title, not created for sexual gratification.
YouTube reportedly justified the deletion by citing violations of its policies on sexual content and nudity. According to the creator, his initial appeal was unsuccessful. He also notes that other YouTube channels have published comparable or even less censored scenes from the game without immediate suspension.
It remains unclear whether those videos were reviewed under the same conditions, or whether other factors contributed to the permanent deletion. The YouTuber is requesting a review of his case and says he will consider legal action under the European Digital Services Act if no solution is found.
Developers Had Explicitly Warned of Problems with YouTube
It is notable that the developers behind Hellraiser: Revival had warned in advance about potential problems with streaming platforms.
Saber Interactive states in the game’s official FAQ that videos and livestreams are generally permitted and even encouraged. However, content creators should enable appropriate age restrictions on their platforms and clearly label content as intended for adults. If available, the studio also recommends adding additional warnings regarding sexual themes.
The developer also notes that editing or censoring explicit scenes does not guarantee a video will comply with platform rules. Hellraiser: Revival does not include a streamer mode that automatically removes problematic content.
The studio also states that it bears no responsibility for any warnings or bans on external platforms, so creators must decide which scenes to publish and how to configure them.
Hellraiser: Revival Deliberately Pushes Boundaries
It’s not surprising that Hellraiser: Revival is causing these problems. The horror game is set in Clive Barker’s universe and depicts violence, gore, and sexuality in an unusually explicit way. Even before release, several trailers had to be toned down for YouTube. Particularly explicit scenes were obscured with visual effects, while uncensored versions were offered separately. However, the developers emphasized on multiple occasions that they did not want to adapt the actual game to the restrictions of individual video platforms. The story follows Aidan as he tries to rescue his girlfriend Sunny from the Cenobites’ realm. It blends classic survival-horror mechanics with signature Hellraiser themes of pain, desire, and human endurance. Those elements make gameplay videos especially challenging to share.
Why an age rating isn’t automatically sufficient
One key difference concerns a game’s age rating and the rules of video platforms. The fact that Hellraiser: Revival is officially rated for adults does not mean that all game scenes can be shown without restriction on YouTube. Streaming services have their own guidelines, which also apply to content from legally available video games.
Sexual content, violence, and nudity can trigger age gates, video removals, or further penalties. A “not intended for children” label is not the same as an explicit 18+ age restriction.
Creators must therefore distinguish between which settings they have actually enabled. Even retroactively censoring certain areas of the video offers no guarantee that a video will be accepted. In addition to visible depictions, factors such as context and the rest of the content shown can play a role. This recent case illustrates how difficult it can be for video producers to assess the boundaries of these rules on a case-by-case basis.
The case raises questions about the moderation of gaming videos
The issue is relevant for both small and large gaming channels. Reviewers who cover new titles regularly need clear, consistent rule enforcement. Horror and adult-oriented games present a particular challenge, as creators must balance faithful representation of the product with YouTube’s restrictions.
There is also the question of how quickly and thoroughly appeals against suspensions are reviewed. J0nathan doubts that his case received sufficient individual consideration, but it remains unconfirmed whether an automated system made the final decision.
YouTube has not yet issued a detailed public statement regarding the specific circumstances surrounding the channel’s deletion. Nor is there any confirmation that the channel has since been restored. Hellraiser: Revival has been available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and other platforms since October 8, 2026.
