Many developers and publishers are trying to avoid GTA 6. Rockstar’s new open-world game is scheduled for November 19, 2026, and is already reshaping the release calendar. One publisher, however, is taking a more relaxed approach.
Hooded Horse, publisher of Manor Lords, is launching Blacksmith Master 1.0 on the same day. Instead of worrying about the competition, CEO Tim Bender says the move is deliberate.

For most publishers, that would be an unfavorable release date, but Hooded Horse disagrees. In a recent post, Bender joked that players who planned to steal cars and take out enemies might instead log on to PC and find themselves forging horseshoes with tiny blacksmiths.
He meant the remark as a joke, yet it underscores a serious stance on the ongoing debate about GTA 6 release timing.
Publisher Believes Fear of Major Releases Is Exaggerated
Bender believes indie developers often overreact to AAA launches. He argues that releasing a competing action game on the same day as GTA 6 is unwise, but for titles in different genres, excessive caution is unnecessary.
Blacksmith Master exemplifies this approach. The management-sim lets players run a medieval blacksmith’s shop, craft tools and weapons, and grow their business. Because of these differences, Hooded Horse believes the two titles will appeal to distinct audiences.
GTA 6 has long since influenced the release calendar
It’s no coincidence that other publishers are avoiding November. GTA 6 is one of the most highly anticipated games of recent years, and there is significant concern that smaller—or even major—releases around the same time might receive less attention.
Several games have been deliberately rescheduled or, at the very least, moved out of Rockstar’s release window. Even developers of major titles have openly discussed in recent months that they are factoring GTA 6 into their own scheduling. The episode underscores how much influence a single game can wield over the entire market.
Hooded Horse is deliberately targeting a different audience
Hooded Horse follows a different logic. The publisher believes games do not automatically compete just because they launch on the same day. A fan of complex management sims might be drawn to both GTA 6 and Blacksmith Master. There is another factor: GTA 6 will not launch on PC at first.
Rockstar has only announced versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S so far, and there is still no confirmed release date for PC players. Blacksmith Master, on the other hand, is coming to Steam. As a result, the apparent head-to-head competition on November 19 is less intense than it first appears.
For PC gamers, the situation is different anyway.
That gap should give Hooded Horse extra confidence. Console gamers will face a crowded release day, but PC gamers cannot play GTA 6 at launch. Anyone shopping for a new PC title on November 19 may well pick Blacksmith Master instead.
Of course, that doesn’t mean GTA 6 won’t draw attention away. Streams, videos, social media, and news sites will likely be dominated by Rockstar’s game around launch. At the same time, though, that contrast could help a niche title.
Blacksmith Master is taking an unconventional approach
The move underscores that not every publisher is taking the same approach to GTA 6. While some studios are trying to distance themselves from November 19, Hooded Horse is leveraging the situation in its communications. At the very least, that is generating attention.
Without the GTA 6 comparison, Blacksmith Master’s move from Early Access to Version 1.0 would likely draw far less attention. The unconventional launch window might even deliver a small marketing boost, though success will not be clear until November.
