The new PS5 update is here, and Sony has improved security and stability.

Sony is rolling out a new system software update for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. Version 26.06-14.10.00 brings security fixes and performance and stability improvements but adds no visible new features.

The update is rolling out in phases, so if it hasn’t appeared on your PS5 yet, you should see it within the next few hours. The timing is notable: just days ago, a new PS5 jailbreak called “Relapse” was released, supporting systems up to firmware version 13.60. Sony has not confirmed whether the security fixes mentioned here are related to that.

PS5 Firmware 26.06-14.10.00 is now available

Sony has already published the official patch notes, which are brief:

  • Security fixes to the system software
  • Performance and stability improvements

New settings, Welcome Hub features, or UI tweaks are not mentioned, so this is a standard maintenance release rather than a major overhaul. The download weighs in at roughly 1.2 GB.

Sony is rolling out the update in phases again

Firmware 26.06-14.10.00 will not hit every PlayStation 5 at once. Sony is once again using a phased rollout, so some players can download it right away while others will see it later.

To check manually, navigate to PS5 Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update > Settings and select “Check for Update.” If the relevant setting is enabled, the PS5 will download the update automatically.

Security fixes stand out this time

The patch notes explicitly mention security fixes alongside the usual performance and stability improvements, though Sony does not specify which vulnerabilities were addressed.

This practice is common for firmware updates: manufacturers often withhold technical details about patched vulnerabilities to make further exploitation harder. Security is especially critical on the PS5, as the homebrew and jailbreak communities are always hunting for new flaws.

New Update Released Immediately After Relapse

The timing is likely to spark discussion, as the new Relapse jailbreak was only recently made publicly available. The method supports various PS5 models, including the PS5 Pro, as long as a compatible older firmware version is installed. The currently supported range extends up to version 13.60.

That means firmware 14.00 is already outside the supported range.

The new update bumps the version to 14.10. That alone doesn’t prove Sony patched Relapse in 14.10. The company still hasn’t cited specific vulnerabilities or linked the fixes to the jailbreak, so the changes may target other parts of the system software.

New games already make older firmware harder to use.

Jailbreak users face another problem: new games and updates increasingly require the latest PS5 system software. Modified console owners will eventually have to choose between staying on older firmware or playing the latest titles, updates, and online features.

The same pattern played out with firmware 14.00. Regular PS5 owners face no such trade-off, and Sony continues to recommend keeping the system software up to date.

Major PS5 Update Didn’t Come Until September

It comes as little surprise that firmware 14.10 brings only a few visible changes. It wasn’t until version 26.06-14.00.00 that Sony released a significantly larger system update. At that time, among other things, the improved PSSR image quality on the PS5 Pro was enabled by default.

The console can now show which participant is speaking in a voice chat, and the Welcome Hub gained a Community Activity widget that highlights popular games and trends. Firmware 14.10 builds on that release and once again focuses on the underlying technical foundation.

QSSR Is Not Included in This Firmware Update

The simultaneous rollout of QSSR is causing some confusion. Sony began pushing its new AI upscaler, Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), to standard PS5 consoles around the same time. Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei are among the first supported games.

However, QSSR is not a new feature of firmware 26.06-14.10.00; the technology is being integrated through game updates and is not listed in the official patch notes for this system update. Therefore, the new firmware should not be confused with Sony’s current QSSR rollout.

No Major New Features in Version 14.10

Anyone expecting immediately visible changes after the update will find very little to note this time around. Sony does not mention any new menu features, changes to the DualSense, new social features, or additional graphics options. Firmware 26.06-14.10.00 focuses entirely on security, performance, and stability.

These minor system updates ship regularly between major firmware versions. It remains to be seen whether Sony included any other changes not mentioned in the official patch notes. PS5 firmware 26.06-14.10.00 is rolling out gradually for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.

If you don’t see it yet, the update will be offered automatically as the rollout continues. Let us know what you think in the comments.
