Sony has quietly improved visual quality across dozens of PS5 Pro games with the launch of PSSR 2.0.
Since the updated PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology launched in March 2026, many games now feature sharper visuals, improved stability, and less flickering on fine details like hair, foliage, and fences.
What Is PSSR 2.0?
PSSR stands for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, Sony’s AI-powered upscaling technology for PS5 Pro.

Instead of rendering games at native 4K, the console can render at a lower resolution internally and then reconstruct the image using machine learning.
The result is a sharper image with improved performance, similar to technologies like NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR.
Native PSSR 2.0 Support Arrives In More Games
Several games have already received native PSSR 2.0 support through dedicated updates.
These include:
- Alan Wake 2
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Crimson Desert
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Monster Hunter Wilds
- Rise of the Ronin
- Silent Hill 2
- Starfield
- Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
Cyberpunk 2077 is also expected to receive support soon.
Many Existing Games Benefit Automatically
Sony has also introduced a system-level option on PS5 Pro that allows many older PSSR 1.0 games to benefit from the new algorithm automatically.
Players can activate the feature through the PS5 Pro settings menu under image quality improvements.

Games like Astro Bot, Battlefield 6, Ghost of Yotei, Gran Turismo 7, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Returnal, Stellar Blade, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered can all benefit from the new image reconstruction system.
Sony Is Already Looking Ahead
According to PS5 Pro architect Mark Cerny, Sony is already working on the next stage of PSSR.
Future updates could bring frame generation technology to PlayStation consoles, allowing games to artificially generate extra frames for smoother performance.
No release window has been announced yet, but PSSR 2.0 is already one of the biggest improvements for PS5 Pro owners so far.
