Xbox and PC players have been racing through Japan since May, but PlayStation 5 owners are still waiting for Forza Horizon 6. A specific release date has not been announced. The extra wait could have advantages, though. A lot has changed in the racing game since launch. Forza Horizon 6 launched on May 19, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The PS5 version is officially scheduled to follow later this year. Playground Games most recently reaffirmed this plan in September, though it still did not specify a concrete date. For PlayStation players, the situation is certainly frustrating. After all, Forza Horizon has become one of the most popular open-world racing game series out there. But those who jump in a few months after the original release might benefit from the improvements made so far.
Numerous Updates Since the Original Release
Since then, Playground Games has rolled out several major updates. Each patch has added new cars, events, and challenges while fixing technical issues and refining core mechanics. The latest update, Horizon Meets, launched on October 5 and introduced fresh vehicles, expanded EventLab content, new progression tiers, and gameplay tweaks.
Earlier updates have already adjusted difficulty, fixed challenge bugs, and refined progression systems. If all these optimizations carry over to the PS5 build, PlayStation players could begin with a version that is already polished in both technology and gameplay.
More content could be available at the PS5 launch
Another potential benefit relates to additional game content. Forza Horizon 6 has been continuously expanded since its release. New vehicles, activities, and features are now an integral part of the racing game. For example, Drift Attack introduced a new game mode, while various updates have added additional vehicles and rewards.
As a result, the PS5 version could launch with more content than the original May release. However, it’s not yet clear whether all existing content will be immediately available or how time-limited events will be handled. It also remains to be seen what Playground Games has in store for PlayStation players in terms of potential expansions and paid downloadable content.
A more polished version instead of an early launch?
With large open-world games, the first few months after launch usually bring constant tweaks. Players report bugs, developers push updates, and minor issues gradually disappear. Forza Horizon 6 is no exception; patch notes show that Playground Games is still refining the title.
A later release isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In the best-case scenario, PS5 owners will benefit from the experience that developers and the community have gained over the past few months. However, that’s no guarantee of a particularly smooth PS5 launch, since even a console version released later can come with its own technical issues.
When will Forza Horizon 6 launch on PS5?
Playground Games still targets a 2026 launch but has not set a specific date.
In September, the developer reiterated that Forza Horizon 6 is still on track for a PlayStation 5 launch later this year, but as of October no firm date has been set. That means PlayStation players will wait a little longer. Still, developments so far show that Forza Horizon 6 has come a long way since May.
The delay might even pay off: instead of installing every early update, PS5 owners could start with a more polished build. Whether the wait proves worthwhile will become clear only when the PS5 version launches.
