Starfield is officially coming to PlayStation 5 on April 7, bringing Bethesda’s space RPG to a whole new audience. Alongside the PS5 release, the game’s biggest free update yet, titled Free Lanes, will go live across all platforms. In addition, a brand new story expansion called Terran Armada will launch at the same time, introducing fresh content and new challenges.
The PS5 version represents the most complete edition of Starfield to date, combining multiple updates, improvements and community driven changes since the game’s original release.
PS5 Version Adds DualSense and PS5 Pro Enhancements
The PlayStation 5 version of Starfield includes several platform specific features. The DualSense controller is fully supported, with adaptive triggers reacting differently depending on weapons and ship systems.
Haptic feedback enhances combat and space flight, while audio logs and intercom messages are played directly through the controller speaker for added immersion.
On PS5 Pro, players can choose between two display modes. The Visual mode offers 4K resolution at 30 FPS, while the Performance mode delivers improved visuals at up to 60 FPS.
Free Lanes Update Expands Core Gameplay
The Free Lanes update significantly expands key gameplay systems, with a strong focus on exploration and player freedom.
Players can now travel more freely between planets within a star system, making space exploration feel more seamless. New random encounters have been added, and the overall frequency of events in space has been increased.
The update also introduces a new resource system, offering greater control over gear and ship customization. In addition, players can further upgrade Starborn abilities and carry more elements into New Game Plus runs.
Terran Armada Introduces a New Storyline
Alongside the update, Bethesda is releasing the Terran Armada story DLC. This expansion introduces a new threat in the form of a powerful robotic force aiming to control the Settled Systems.
Players will explore the Incursion system, discover new technologies and team up with a new companion. The DLC can be purchased separately or accessed through the Premium Edition.
Additional Content via Creations
At launch, players will also gain access to the Trackers Alliance bounty content, available through the Creations menu.
This includes a series of seven unique targets, each offering its own story and gameplay challenges. These missions take players across different regions and provide additional replay value.
April 7 Marks a Major Milestone
With its release on April 7, Starfield expands to PlayStation for the first time while continuing to evolve on all platforms. The combination of the Free Lanes update and new DLC highlights Bethesda’s ongoing support for the game.
